Client Profile:

Business with Multiple Owners
Desire to Fund the Buy-Sell

Problem:

Client, age 69, has term insurance in place for buy-sell planning. Client sees himself remaining in the business beyond the term insurance period. Client’s time horizon doesn’t match the term duration. The client thinks permanent life insurance premiums are too expensive.

Solution:

Under this example, the cash value in a permanent policy solution exceeds the additional cost of permanent premiums paid, if the buy-sell is structured as stock redemption. Although the permanent premiums are more, there is cash value above and beyond the difference in premiums paid when the term policy would expire. So, the client may recoup his costs (and then some) if he decided to surrender the permanent policy when the term coverage would have ended. Or the client may continue the coverage to better align with his time horizon.
